Since the last Senedd elections in 2021, the Labour-led Welsh government has dutifully passed down public sector cuts, consistently demanded by the Tories in Westminster, and now continuing under the Starmer government.
The NHS across Wales remains in terminal crisis, education is not much better, and local government continues to make millions of pounds more council cuts whilst above inflation council tax increases are still the norm.
We need Senedd Members who will enthusiastically work alongside local councillors, trade unions and community campaigners to stop further cuts, improve our public services, protect council jobs, services, and pay a minimum wage of at least £15 an hour.
TUSC Senedd Members will link up with trade unionists to ensure that NHS workers, like the Cwm Taf health visitors, receive their proper pay grade instead of being forced into strike action against the health board management and the Labour health minister, who could both resolve this dispute overnight.
We will be working alongside the education unions in Wales to stop further staff redundancies and improve the conditions and working environment in the underfunded, dilapidated schools.
And our Senedd Members will demand that local councillors must oppose all cuts and closures to council services, jobs, pay and conditions.
We will oppose council tax, rent and service charge increases, by demanding adequate funding from central government to maintain and develop our public services.
For those councils who continue to implement cuts, we will launch a campaign amongst council workers, trade unions, and residents for legal, no-cuts, needs budgets in order to force the Westminster and Welsh governments to provide the finances necessary to protect all of our local government services.
Over the past five years many public service jobs in Wales have been privatised in Wales, outsourced to either ‘social enterprise’ or ‘arm’s length’ management organisations, which are the first step towards full privatisation. All these services must be brought back in-house now.
Our public sector in Wales needs protecting, improving, and fully financing.
Socialist Senedd Members would play a vital role in achieving that objective.
